Quality Management

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) created the Quality Management System (QMS) standards in 1987.It contains no new requirements. Many of the changes were to improve consistency in grammar, facilitating translation of the standard into other languages for use by over 950,000 certified organisations in the 175 countries (as at Dec 2007) that use the standard.Once an organization has won the award it has to wait several years before being eligible to apply again.Setting of personnel service standards is an extremely effective management approach in getting better outcomes from the service delivery process. This document gives the standardized descriptions of the principles as they appear in ISO 9000:2005 and ISO 9004:2000. In addition, it provides examples of the benefits derived from their use and of actions that managers typically take in applying the principles to improve their organizations' performance.
